Since 2005, the Handy Mag magazines bridge the gap between ‘ad-mags’ and larger, nationwide and countywide, lifestyle magazines to create the perfect medium to reach local people.
Our two magazines—Handy Mag Ryedale and Handy Mag York—are trusted, well-established, local publications that have made significant contributions to developments in their respective areas.
Both magazines are distributed with Royal Mail. Handy Mag Ryedale is delivered to Malton, Norton, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley, and surrounding villages; whereas Handy Mag York is delivered to Haxby, Wigginton, Strensall, Stockton-on-the-Forest, Huntington, New Earswick, Earswick, Upper & Nether Poppleton, Skelton, Dunnington and everywhere in-between.
Our publishing house is in Malton, North Yorkshire—so we know the area and have excellent connections with local businesses and the wider community. We are passionate about supporting and celebrating local life in Ryedale and York because we, too, are a part of that life.

Back in 2005 I started my publishing journey and, after 20 years, I am very proud to be ‘keeping it local’, providing a place for businesses and community to interact through our well-respected magazines.
As a small – but perfectly formed! – team, we work hard for every one of our customers – business or community. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than a business that has grown directly because of their advertising in the Handy Mag.
Nicky Whalen
Operations Manager
I’ve worked for the Handy Mag for the past 17 years, fulfilling many roles! As well as dealing with credit control and all things operational, I primarily look after the community news pages in the magazines, gathering event details, charity news, local stories — the list is endless!
Our local communities are at the heart and soul of the magazines and I’m proud of the important role we play in supporting them.

I joined the Handy Mag in 2026 as an Account Manager, with a strong passion for communication and client care. I enjoy getting to know local businesses and supporting them in reaching the right audience through thoughtful, tailored approaches that achieve lasting results
Tom Preston
Graphic Designer
I joined the Handy Mag team in 2024, and it’s been a great experience so far. I’ve always had a passion for all things creative, and working in a creative environment is something I really enjoy.
I’m also a big supporter of local and independent businesses, so being part of something that helps connect them with the community is a perfect fit for me. It’s great to play a role in celebrating and supporting what’s happening locally.
