Bowling Back to a Brighter Future

by Editorial Team

Following a long period of inactivity at Ryedale Indoor Bowls Club, the committee and members are eagerly looking forward to the start of a new season of bowling in September.

The club looks forward to welcoming all past and present bowlers to a full season of both league and social bowling sessions on our newly laid rink carpet, which completes a £90k programme of refurbishments undertaken over the past 5 years. This extensive programme of work also includes a new led lighting system, new rink side carpeting, refurbished seating, led electronic scoreboards, and a complete refurbishment of the washrooms.

Financing for the work has been through a combination of grant schemes managed by RDC, club funds and special fund raising events; these were organised by the committee, who would like to thank those members of the club who offered their support to many elements of the work.

Prior to the Covid pandemic, the club had 200 members coming from all areas of Ryedale; and as restrictions now start to be lifted, they are keen to consolidate and build on this figure over the next few years. As an important part of the Ryedale Community & Leisure Centre, which also embraces the Brooklyn Play group, Dance Expression dance studio, and Oscars bar and function suite, it is important that the club and other users of the building flourish and grow to ensure this important community asset for Ryedale has a successful long term future.

Presently the club is running a session of social bowling on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00 am until the full season starts on 13th September with a daily programme of daytime/evening league and social bowling sessions. With this mixed programme we aim to offer a range of options to suit all abilities (the social bowling sessions being popular with those new to the game or those that just wish to play a very relaxed form of bowls with like minded people, enjoying a cup of tea or coffee during a mid game break).

Whether you are an experienced bowler, maybe new to the area, or just someone looking for some gentle exercise and social interaction with other members of the Ryedale community, we may have just what you have been looking for. You don’t need to make any commitments to the club until you are totally happy to continue long term. We will even provide you with the loan of woods and footwear and some coaching to get you started. So for less than the cost of a pint at the pub, you could soon be playing this wonderful game in a comfortable, friendly environment where you will be made welcome by all the other members of the club.
