The all-singing, all-dancing Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Centre is proud to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. Angela Kirkham, who co-founded the school alongside Jennie Henry, explains how their focus remains on giving the joy of performing arts to the communities of Ryedale and North Yorkshire.
Since forming in 1989, their values have always been based on nurture and support, which has gained them a well-deserved reputation for excellence.
We wish we could name everyone who has given their enthusiasm and hard work – and still do. There are so many. They willed us to fulfil a dream – for their children and for the future, says Angela.
Many students have gone on to have successful careers in dance and musical theatre, or even return to the school to teach classes to the next generation.
We are immensely proud of our students’ achievements over the years, says Angela.
The school also continues to attract third and fourth generation students. Angela says “It’s wonderful to keep in touch with our senior students who have gone on to have a career in the industry, they come back to see us on a regular basis.”
The centre holds classes for all ages and abilities, including children, young adults and adults – their oldest student is still dancing at 97 years old!
The future looks bright for the school, too.
Angela and the team are committed to keeping ahead of all the trends. Not only do they offer triple threat musical theatre – the ability to act, dance and sing which includes ballet and tap – they also have new additions to their growing list of classes. These include Zumba, body conditioning, contemporary dance, Toddler Tunes, Baby Beats, Ballet Buddies and more.
