This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pride of Malton and Norton Awards. Run by a volunteer local team, the awards have grown over the years into a prestigious occasion to celebrate local community and business heroes.
The Handy Mag’s very own Mandy West has been organising the awards since the very beginning (and well before she became part of our team) and is now part of a team of three in Malton and Norton Community Events which also includes Gemma Bicknell (The Topiary Tree) and David Macdonald (The Talbot).
It takes a huge amount of work to stage the awards. Mandy says “The aim has always been to celebrate those inspirational local people who make Malton and Norton a great place to live and work. It has been a real pleasure to be involved and see these people rewarded.” The awards are funded entirely by support from local businesses and over the years thousands has been raised for local charities with raffles and auctions on the night. In 2018, £2400 was raised for Candlelighters and Sight Support Ryedale and in 2019 the chosen charities are Ryedale Special Families and Camphill Village Trust.
The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday 26th October at York House Marquee at The Talbot which provides a glittering backdrop to a great evening.
