Charlie’s Column—Finding Hope…

“When hope and love has been lost / And you fall to the ground / You must find a way”

— “Dig Down,” Muse

It’s been a funny old year, to say the least. We have had to dig deep and find our resolve, to find hope in the midst of a global, never-seen-before pandemic.

But this is no easy task. This last year has been tough: we have had to rely on one another more than ever, though our contact with our family members has been negligible; we may have lost loved ones; and our “normal” way of life seems like a bygone era.

“A simple plot / But I know, one day / Good things are coming our way”

— “Up With The Birds,” Coldplay

The one thing that we have all had to rely on is hope. I know it sounds cliché, but things will get better. Longer, warmer summer days will return once more. We will be able to see one another again in a non-virtual manner. And we will get through this.

In the meantime, we just have to wait and be patient, safe in the knowledge that better things are on their way. I encourage that you to find a hobby that you can complete safely at home. Finish the book that has been sat on your shelf for ten years; learn a new language; redesign your flower beds; binge watch your favourite series. Carpe diem!

I, myself, will be settling in for the coming weeks with Jimmy Carr’s stand-up on TV and my favourite foods. But that’s just me. How about you?
