Back in October 2020, Malton Town Council and Malton in Bloom ran a competition for readers of the Handy Mag to come up with a name for two sculptures created by Andrew Kay and commissioned in the Malton area: a horse which sits on the skyline of Broughton Rise and a sparrow which sits on a tree stump at Sparrows Nest Garden, at the top of Newbiggin.

Congratulations to Matilda Lightfoot, age 6, from Ebberston for naming the horse ‘Spirit of Malton’ and to Lucy Barker, age 13, from Malton for ‘Tiny Tim — The Sparrow’, named after the Dickens character.

Each winner will have their name on a plaque and receive £20 of WH Smiths vouchers. Well done!
