Exhibition of Childhood Toys Hailed a Success

by Handy Mag

St Michael’s Church in Malton staged an exhibition of toys on 4th December to help raise funds for the rebuilding of the south aisle. The idea was to take a walk down memory lane and bring people together, allowing them to reminisce about their childhood.

Organiser Helen Shaw said: “We had a fabulous weekend. Some very old and very interesting toys were on display and all of them with their back-story being told. Some with very poignant stories and one rather hair-raising!”

Parishioners also loaned their Teddy bears and the oldest one on show dated from 1931.

Photos of the toys being played with by the original owners were also displayed and the images were used to make a film show, which ran throughout the event.

Any money raised over the event will go towards the rebuilding of the south aisle where structural movement has occurred and one of the high-level windows has had to be boarded up for safety reasons.

Kevin Hollinrake MP attended the preview evening on Friday 3rd December
