After the success of last year’s The Book of Dragons, York Theatre Royal brings to the Studio a Christmas show specially created for children aged 3+ and their families in The Elves and the Shoemakers (11 Dec – 05 Jan).
The popular tale tells the story of two poor shoemakers who were so poor they couldn’t even afford to buy each other Christmas presents. With no wood for the fire and only one piece of leather left to make shoes, there was little festive spirit in the shoemakers’ shop. But one night, just as the snow begins to fall outside and the clock strikes midnight, two mischievous elves appear at the window…
And to find out what happens you’ll just have to go and see the show. Directed again by the theatre’s Associate Director Juliet Forster, The Elves and the Shoemakers will bring the classic Christmas story to life with live music, puppetry and lots of theatre magic for a guaranteed festive treat for young children.
Over in the Main House families with children 6+ won’t want to miss York’s world-famous pantomime as Berwick Kaler returns to celebrate 40 years as York’s Dame in The Grand Old Dame of York (13 Dec – 02 Feb). Berwick will again be joined by Martin Barrass, Suzy Cooper, David Leonard and AJ Powell for another spectacular and entertaining show. You can expect a gag-laden, song packed extravaganza featuring stunning costumes, jaw-dropping sets and choreography to thrill. You won’t want to miss this one!
