Help save Helmsley Walled Garden

by Handymag

Many of you will know Helmsley Walled Garden, have visited us over the years since we opened and know that we still maintain the vision of Alison Ticehurst who began the garden – to restore and develop the garden for the benefit of visitors and our local community, enabling individuals to gain confidence and learn new skills through horticulture.

Our visitors benefit from the therapeutic nature of the garden itself, getting ideas on growing vegetables from our kitchen garden, planting ideas from the borders or simply enjoying time spent in this beautiful and tranquil space.

Our only income is from our visitors during the summer months and this needs to sustain us through to the following March. Coronavirus has meant that we have been unable to open so far this year.

We need to raise £50,000 to ensure the garden survives. Without this funding we will close. The garden has high running costs and just two full and two part-time employees to support around 50 active garden volunteers. The garden is entirely maintained by volunteers, a number of whom face difficulties of some sort, ranging from social anxiety to learning difficulties.

Please help us reach our fundraising target by adopting a square metre of this beautiful garden. Go to to donate. Let us know the area you want to sponsor and the name you want on the certificate. Any questions please contact our Garden Manager on 07923 217036. Please note no propriety or other rights are, or should be assumed to be, conveyed to the donor as a consequence of this scheme.

Anything you can give us now will help us sustain this special place. Thank you.
