Just Happy. Just Healthy

by Editorial Team

Anne Little and her team are on a mission to improve the health and fitness of older adults and those with limited movement.

Background

Anne has a vast experience of inspiring others to engage in a more active lifestyle and has been running health-related exercise classes in Ryedale, and before that Huddersfield area, since 2010. She has even been a senior lecturer in Exercise, Physical Activity and Health at the University of Huddersfield so is well-placed to provide help to those who need it. She decided to specialise in working with adults with limited movement and older adults in 2016 when she saw that they were at risk of becoming isolated.

Just Movement

Just Movement, a not-for-proft organisation, was set up in 2016 with the aim of keeping older adults happy, healthy and ‘together’ through participation in tailored chair-based exercise programmes. The sessions have become very popular. Anne explained: “Chair-based exercises are perfect for this group. We have run these classes for a number of years in West Yorkshire and they are the highlight of the week for many who attend.”
During the pandemic Just Movement diversified its services to include live streaming of chair dance classes online. This led to Just Movement becoming approved providers for the Asthma and Lung UK (formerly British Lung Foundation) and Age UK. The team produced a DVD for Age UK for their ‘We are Undefeatable’ project funded by the Richmond Group of Charities of which Age UK and Asthma and Lung UK (British Lung Foundation) are members.

Chair-based classes in Ryedale

Anne is very keen to start her chair-based classes in Helmsley area later this year. The venue and day are still to be decided but the venue will be central and easily accessible. Classes will run 1.30pm to 3pm and include easy to follow fun chair-based dance routines to great music from across the decades.

Anne said: “Everyone will be encouraged to move at a pace or level that feels just right for them and, most of all, have a good time! Dancing will be followed by 30 minutes refreshments and a chinwag!” If you are interested in chair ZUMBA for yourself, a friend or for a group you are already running, contact Anne on 07899 751049.

Anne Little Fitness

Despite being semi-retired, Anne is keen to continue with her exercise classes under the name Anne Little Fitness where she runs Pilates and dance fitness classes in Harome and Helmsley for active older adults and those returning to fitness. She has also moved into the world of mindfulness, and this year became an accredited mindfulness for stress teacher with Breathworks UK.
