Imagine… a big shed where people can take all their unwanted wood. That could be furniture, planks, pallets, pieces of tree, waste wood from builders, even fruit boxes.
The workshop would have a small team of volunteer woodworkers who could take things apart and clean, sort and stack the pieces ready for re-use. If furniture items were in fairly good condition, they could be refurbished and sold very cheaply to people who need a helping hand.
Youngsters could come on Saturday mornings and learn woodcraft.
Retired carpenters could come and share their knowledge and expertise.
There would always be a supply of kindling available for local people – donations accepted.
Sawdust for pet cages. Wood chips for garden paths. Given enough space, there could be a small tree nursery attached, to encourage the planting of trees to replace those used.
