At Coopers of Pickering

We spoke to Keith, Showroom Manager, and Catherine, Designer, at Coopers about the newly refreshed kitchen and bathroom showroom and latest interior trends.

When was Coopers established and when did you start selling kitchens and bathrooms?

The business was established in 1895 and is now managed by the 5th generation of the Cooper family. We sold our first fitted kitchen in 1984. Bathrooms and bedrooms followed in the early 90s.

What can people expect when they visit the showroom?

We have just recently completed our biggest ever showroom update. We have 8 kitchen displays and 7 bathroom sections, including 5 actual bathroom room-sets to give a much better idea of what can be achieved in your own space. We are surprised at just how much we have squeezed in!

How does the process work?

We offer a free home measure and design service within the local area. Alternatively, we can work from supplied measurements. We operate on a supply-only basis but can recommend local installers if required. Our 3D designs look more realistic than ever as we have just invested in new software that offers photorealistic images and feature the majority of our displayed ranges in true scale.

What challenges are associated with designing bathrooms and kitchens?

Every space is different and in our local area we have lots of older properties that feature beams, slopes and wonky walls. That said, our 3 designers have a combined 48 years experience between them, so there won’t be much that we haven’t seen before.

How have kitchens and bathrooms changed over the years?

Many kitchens now have much larger ‘open plan’ spaces where islands are a feature, along with matching furniture in dining and living areas. Advancements in technologies and materials means that we can now offer over 40 colours from our core kitchen ranges. The biggest change we have seen in bathrooms is the availability and choice of furniture to give much needed storage space. The proof of this can be seen in our showroom as we have 12 basins on display and only two of them don’t have a vanity unit underneath.

What are the biggest kitchen and bathroom trends?

Over half of our orders in the last 12 months have featured green elements. In kitchens alone we have Mint Green, Moss Green, Reed Green and Sage Green doors. These are most often combined with classic white marble or natural wood effect surfaces.

In bathrooms we have another green colour palette that we often combine with brushed brass fixtures and fittings. Tiles are as popular as ever but we also use a lot of Mermaid shower panels for a smooth easy clean finish. Our new Mermaid Elite range is a ‘trimless’ system that doesn’t use any exposed metal trims for a more seamless look.

What sets Coopers apart?

As an independent family-run business we pride ourselves on our customer service. We have a small dedicated team that work with customers throughout the entire process and they are always on hand to answer any questions. All of our orders are checked by hand prior to delivery and we only ever use our own vehicles to guarantee your order arrives on time and in perfect condition.

Do you also supply bedrooms?

Yes! Our main kitchen supplier has a wide range of fitted bedroom furniture. Although we don’t display any of their wardrobes, they are manufactured to the same high quality as the kitchen ranges, which can be seen throughout the showroom.

Is there anything you’d like to tell customers?

All of our kitchen and bathroom displays can be seen on our website, and we have just recently added a 360 degree walk through of the entire store to our Google page. Customers are welcome to visit the showroom with no appointment during shop open hours.
