Everything you need to know about the August Malton Food Lovers Festival

Yorkshire’s foodie Glastonbury is back for a second helping! The Malton Food Lovers Festival returns this August Bank Holiday weekend for three more days packed full of mouth-watering foodie fun, amazing entertainment and a star-studded roster of talented local chefs.

Taking place across the 27th, 28th and 29th August 2022, this summer’s free-to-enter Food Lovers Festival has a jam-packed schedule of delicious demonstrations and ‘sofa chats’ on the Main Stage, as well as over 120 food stalls filled with decadent delicacies, guaranteeing that every visitor will leave with a smile on their face and a full belly.

Headlining this summer’s event is Michelin-starred Chef, Tommy Banks. Born and raised in Yorkshire, local lad Tommy will be taking to the Yorkshire Baker Main Stage on Saturday 27th August, where he’ll be sharing his expertise and demonstrating some of his culinary creations from The Black Swan at Oldstead and Roots, York. Plus, Tommy will be signing copies of his debut cookbook ‘Roots,’ outside Kemps General Store, for festival goers that are keen to meet the acclaimed chef and quiz him on his mastery.

Joining Tommy Banks on this summer’s line up are Angelica and Crafthouse Head Chef, Simon Jewitt, and 2019 Great British Bake-Off winner and author, David Atherton, who will both be serving up some seriously tasty treats on stage on Sunday 28th August.

Highlights on Monday 29th August includes the highly acclaimed Jono Hawthorne, as seen on BBC MasterChef: The Professionals 2020, who will be giving festival goers a taste of what he cooks up at his Leeds-based fine dining restaurant, Chef Jono at V&V.

In addition to the celebrity chef line-up, visitors can expect to hear from a whole host of local talented chefs, bakers and producers from the Malton area across the weekend, with familiar faces such as Jon Applebyfrom the Feversham Arms, Peter Garlick, Head Chef at The Talbot Hotel and, Gilly Robinson, pioneer of Malton’s cookery school, The Cook’s Place.

Also making a comeback as the official sponsors of the Malton Food Lovers Festival Main Stage is award-winning bakery, Yorkshire Baker. Armed with their scrumptious sausage rolls, mini beef wellingtons and award-winning artisan pies, Yorkshire Baker is back for a second helping of this foodie extravaganza! The headline sponsors will be hosting hourly pop-up demonstrations in collaboration with The Cook’s Place every day of the festival, and visitors can also catch the bakery’s innovation team opening and closing on the Main Stage.

Speaking on the return of the Malton Food Lovers summer festival, Michelin-starred Chef Tommy Banks, said:

Helping to create the unbeatable atmosphere we have all come to expect from the festival over the years, there will also be a selection of live music with a great mix of buskers and brass bands. Be Amazing Arts entertainments will also be there throughout the weekend with the Creativitent. Offering children’s story telling, mini disco’s, crafts and face paints, there really is something for the whole family!

The 3-day festival opens from 9am on the Saturday and Sunday (27th & 28th) and from 10am on Bank Holiday Monday (29th), with festival demos kicking off from 10am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday and Monday.

The Food Lovers Festival is free to enter, and a Park and Ride is available at each entrance to Malton from the A64 with a charge of £7.50 per car including a free shuttle bus service direct to the event. Disabled parking is also available at the Park and Ride sites.

Malton is easily accessible via public transport with frequent train services to the town from York and Scarborough and Malton is on the award winning Coastliner bus route.
