Malton Hospital League of Friends Charity Shop Reopens

by Jared Smith

Malton Hospital League of Friends Charity Shop is now back open after having to close its doors due to lockdown restrictions.

The League of Friends has been supporting Malton, Norton & District Hospital since 1977, and — more recently — Derwent Surgery, by working to help provide funding for vital equipment and resources for the benefit of patients and their families. They work closely with the hospital to provide items above that which the NHS can provide — these range from small items, such as face cloths and comfort packs, to larger pieces of equipment and refurbishments.

The shop is currently open Wednesday to Saturday, from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm, selling an array of clothing, bric-a-brac items, accessories, and occasionally small items of furniture. They are always grateful for a variety of donations but with coronavirus restrictions, they can currently only accept donations by appointment (sorry no electrical items).

Rebecca MacFarlane, shop manager, says:

We have a lot of stock but often as soon as items are put out they are quickly sold, so it would be great to have more donations. The League of Friends has raised hundreds of thousands for our local hospital and, at this critical time, we need to work harder than ever.”

The League of Friends is run by a management group who meet once a month to discuss future fundraising efforts and requests for financial support. They are always on the lookout for new members and volunteers to help support the work that they do.

For more information on volunteering or to discuss donations please contact 01653 698183 or why not pop into the shop at 11-13 Newbiggin, Malton YO17 7JE.
