Malton, Norton and District Lions have again seen a fantastic response to their hugely popular Santa’s sleigh—despite deciding to run a socially-distanced sleigh for the second year running.

Over 17-night flights around Malton, Norton and surrounding villages, Santa and his band of elves raised a whopping £20,186.83!

Lion President, Annie Harrison, said: “We are absolutely delighted by this year’s total, which considering the still difficult circumstances due to Covid is just wonderful!

“I would like to thank everyone who made Santa’s tour possible and such a huge success, including our fantastic business sponsors and everyone who donated in person, online and by text.

“Every penny we raise goes towards supporting vulnerable local people throughout the rest of the year, so everyone who contributes makes a huge difference to the help we can give.”

Annie also thanked her fellow members of Malton, Norton and District Lions and local volunteers, who work so hard to make the sleigh a success.

She added: “From Santa and his elves to all the behind the scenes helpers who maintain the sleigh, shampoo Santa’s beard, manage his social media and plan our routes – everyone has pulled together to contribute to this outstanding total.

“Hours of preparation go into getting Santa’s sleigh on the road each year, but when we see how much children and adults enjoy it, it’s all worthwhile!”
