Malton’s very own male voice choir is back in town this Christmas for its seasonal yuletide concert after East Coast appearances in both Bridlington and Scarborough.
Malton District Male Voice Choir is returning to Malton Methodist Church for the concert on 2nd December at 2.30pm. Many of its earliest concerts and practices were held in the historic Saville Street venue, soon to undergo ambitious and dramatic transformation into a major community hub.
The new Wesley Centre will host many local groups, hopefully including the Male Voice Choir, and hopes to become an established destination in Ryedale for the arts and good quality music.
The choir is hoping to stick to a proven format for this year’s Christmas Family Concert. Under longstanding Musical Director Vivien Wilcock and with Moira Gray at the piano, it will perform traditional songs and carols and involve guest and choir soloists. Tickets on the door are £7, children are free. There will be interval mince pies.
The Christmas concert is taking place after the choir’s fifth annual appearance in the East Coast Music Festival in Bridlington and also follows a unique concert marking the inauguration of Scarborough’s newly refurbished Market Hall. Those events in turn follow WW1, RAF Centenary and private birthday concerts in Malton.
Now in its eleventh year the choir has rubbed shoulders with entertainment greats like Lesley Garrett and Gareth Malone. It is completely self-supporting and new members – particularly retirees or those with time to fill – will find the choir good company.
