Malton District Male Voice Choir is back on song after a New Year break and is looking for “a few good men” to help it through another busy musical season.
New Chairman Peter Spencer says: “Our pallet of songs can only get wider if the choir gets bigger. So, we need a few good men to make it possible. Having said that, however, he stressed: “our current small size has a lot of advantages at concerts in small local village halls and churches and we’d like to keep it that way”.
The choir, founded in 2007 and still probably the youngest of its kind in the region, is now well-known for its broad performing pallet, ranging from traditional Welsh classics to songs from popular shows.
“There is always something in our repertoire for most musical tastes”, says Musical Director Vivien Wilcock. “But to do justice to the music we need to expand our four-part singing”, she stresses.
Choir founder and President Tom Todd says the choir is “fun, informal and always easy-going. No previous choir experience is necessary”. He adds: “Whatever your age or background, singing is good for you and now is an ideal time to join us.
Last year saw a unique choir concert at RAF Fylingdales, concerts in Cropton, Great Edstone and other venues as well charity performances in Malton for Mencap and the Cauwood Centre. This year the Choir already have concert requests for Malton and Pickering. Because of its small size, the choir remains popular for weddings and other private events.
The choir meets most Mondays from 7.30pm in Malton Baptist Church Community Hall (next to Yates store). To book for an event, or to join us, call Secretary David Ackroyd on 01944 758693 or Chairman Peter Spencer on 01653 696803 or visit www.mdmvc.co.uk
