Pizza On The Road With Bistro Guy

After 10 years of running city centre Bistro, Bistro Guy of York is now on the road with a wonderful vintage, mobile woodfire pizzas trailer.

Owner Guy Whapples is very grateful for the support he has received and says: “Our industry has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic and my family and I would like to personally thank all of our customers and suppliers for your support and encouragement. We have gone from having a restaurant to now running a mobile pizza trailer, visiting local villages five nights a week, once a month, along with brewery taprooms and private parties when lockdown ends.”

At the start of the pandemic, Guy, keen to support his local area, cooked over 300 pizzas for the staff at York Teaching Hospital. He also cooked homemade meals for vulnerable people in surrounding villages.

In December, Bistro Guy supported two local charities by donating £1 for every pizza sold (£625 in total). Guy explains: “The first was mental health charity York MIND. This is an organisation that needs more support now, and in future years, due to increasing demand for their services. Issues connected to mental health can affect anyone from the elderly to young adults and school children. The second charity we wanted to help was homelessness charity SASH (Safe and Sound Homes). This year there has been an increase in demand for numerous reasons. Everyone should have a safe place to sleep at night.”
