York audiences will get to enjoy the award-winning and critically acclaimed Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) on 4th to the 9th November when it comes to York Theatre Royal later this year. Direct from the West End, the show won the Best Comedy Olivier Award in 2022. It is adapted from the Jane Austen novel by Isobel McArthur, winner of the Rising Star Award in the Evening Standard Theatre Awards.

The show is a unique and audacious retelling of Austen’s most iconic love story. Men, money and microphones will be fought over in this irreverent but affectionate adaptation where the stakes couldn’t be higher when it comes to romance. The production features a string of pop classics including Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and You’re So Vain

The Newcastle Theatre Royal production of Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) is presented by David Pugh and Cunard.

In September, York Theatre Royal will host London City Ballet for Resurgence (06-07 Sep). After an absence of almost 30 years, the company returns to stages across the world with a sublime programme of ballet and contemporary dance.

Featuring a fantastic, international company of dancers, this comeback production includes acclaimed works such as the revival of Kenneth MacMillan’s 1972 one-act ballet Balladeunseen in Europe for over fifty years.  Ashley Page’s Larina Waltz celebrates its 30th anniversary in this production, and Olivier-award winner Arielle Smith creates a brand-new work. Eve, a full company piece by London City Ballet’s Artistic Director, Christopher Marney, which premiered at Sadlers Wells in 2022 closes the evening.

Formerly a resident company of Sadler’s Wells, London and internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading dance companies, the prolific London City Ballet was famously patronised by Diana, Princess of Wales, before closing its doors in 1996. With achingly beautiful dance fused with glorious music and unrivalled on-stage talent, the company is back with a vengeance.

Innovative and heart-warming new play Wonder Boy (29 Oct – 02 Nov) by Ross Williswill also come to York Theatre Royal this autumn, on its first tour after receiving great acclaim when it premiered at Bristol Old Vic in 2022. The production will be directed by Olivier Award-winner Sally Cookson (A Monster Calls).

Telling the story of 12-year-old Sonny who creates a superhero to help him with his stammer, this show is packed with playful humour, dazzling visuals and thrilling original music, and includes live creative captioning on stage throughout.

The Bristol Old Vic Production of Wonder Boy is presented by PW Productions Ltd.
