An update from Rev Malcolm Dyer, Chair of Ryedale Foodbank Steering Group

Following the sad loss of Jacqui Griffiths who managed Ryedale Food Bank, we have gone through a process of reorganisation to enable us to continue to support those who require emergency food provision.

We recognise that this provision is needed more than ever in the difficult circumstances caused by Covid19. We have appreciated the messages of sympathy sent in by so many individuals and organisations and we have passed on many of these messages to Jacqui’s family.

We want to thank all the volunteers who have stepped up to make the continued operation of the Food Bank possible and we appreciate the many offers of support from across Ryedale. We have been able to take up some of the offers of support, but if you have not heard from us, we do appreciate your willingness to assist, but at the moment we have sufficient support.

We particularly want to make known the process for obtaining food provision which has had to change because of Covid19. Please note the details below for yourself or others who may be in difficulty.

  • • All referrals from those requiring emergency food provision should be made through one of the established referring agencies, whether a local Council, a School, Citizen’s Advice or other organisation who you are in contact with.
  • • Anyone not in contact with a Referring Agency should call the Community Support Organisation on 07922 421326, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm. You will be offered wider support and food assistance.
  • • Because of Covid19 we now deliver all food assistance through a wonderful team of volunteer drivers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • • The number to call for general information about Ryedale Foodbank is 07990 264008, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

We also want to thank individuals and organisations across Ryedale for their incredible generosity in food and cash donations, we have been overwhelmed by the level of support. We are hearing of boxes or bins appearing in gardens and phone boxes and horse boxes being turned into collection points, the ingenuity and generosity of Ryedale community is so appreciated. It is still possible to bring donations to our warehouse in Howe Road, please check our website, www.ryedale.foodbank.org.uk for opening hours. If you have donated money and we have not responded to you, please accept our apologies, every donation is important to us.

Ryedale Foodbank continues to work for a society in which Foodbanks are no longer needed.
