Ryedale u3a is part of the national u3a movement, supporting older people to learn together, make friends and have fun! The group is growing fast, with almost 400 members, fully run by volunteers and organizing 73 events each month right across Ryedale.
You can choose whatever you’re interested in doing, including physical things like 5 walking groups, cycling, pickleball, racquetball, and 5 dancing groups. If you prefer something less active, how about History, Psychology, French, Italian or Spanish conversation and Current Affairs. We have 3 book clubs, and play Canasta, Mahjong and Rummikub regularly. We have over 40 interest groups at the moment and are always looking to expand our list. We have two new groups opening in September and are always looking for new ideas if you’d like to suggest anything.
Our monthly meeting is held at Kirkby Misperton Village Hall on the second Tuesday of each month. which is a combination of social and formal, including a visiting main speaker on a wide variety of fascinating topics. Recent talks have covered the Curiosities of the North York Moors, the future of the Chagos archipelago, and the history of Public Parks.
Monthly coffee mornings are held at the Kingfisher Café in Malton (first Thursday) and the Forest and Vale Hotel in Pickering (third Thursday). These are a great way to come and get to know us in an informal chat.
Details of all our events, with contact points are all on our website. You could enquire about any group, or look at the trustee page to contact any committee member; just click on the photo and an email box will open up. You can also see our monthly newsletter via the website.
We keep costs to an absolute minimum, just £10 per annum membership and small contributions to cover the cost of each meeting.
We’re growing fast, with almost 100 new members in the last year. We hope you’ll come along and get involved. Come and join us!
