It has been an unusual year, to be sure, but Ryedale Lions are determined the show must go on and are, once again, helping to bring Santa to Ryedale this December.
To minimise risks to everyone, door-to-door collection will be replaced with planned stops in the usual towns and villages. Visitors to the sleigh will be required to maintain social distancing from each other and from Santa and his helpers. Lions President Frank Hayward said:
It will be a different Christmas but we are very keen to keep Santa flying for the people of Ryedale and we are sure everyone will understand the changes we have to make.”
Santa’s Sleigh is Ryedale Lions biggest annual fundraising activity, raising thousands of pounds to be donated to local charities. Any individual or group interested in being involved when the Sleigh visits their town or village should contact Ben Hayes on 01751471409 or email@example.com. Ben said:
We are publishing our programme early so everyone can be aware and plan. But there may well be changes to the schedule. All updates will be notified through the press, radio and our Facebook, Twitter and website pages”

Santa takes to the streets with safety-first sleigh!
Santa will be sprinkling stardust and delivering magic in Malton, Norton and nearby villages in the run up to Christmas – riding a stay-safe sleigh! Hand sanitisers and Father Christmasks are at the ready to make it possible for the world’s most welcome visitor to go on his grand tour.
Working with Malton and Norton Lions, he is again aiming to help raise thousands of pounds to support vulnerable families and people in need. Lions President, Di Keal, said:
Santa has told us he is going to go with his sleigh to see children street by street over in December. Santa and his reindeer completed their quarantine together so children will still be able to give them a wave from their windows and doorsteps when they go by.”

Children are this year able to enter Santa’s colouring competition and tell us their top three wishes for Christmas, with a prize provided by the elves at Morrisons. Money raised by Malton and Norton Lions goes to support local people and families. […] We thought long and hard this year about what the Lions could do in the middle of this terrible pandemic and found a safe way for Santa to visit. We know how much youngsters look forward to Father Christmas calling and were determined to make sure they didn’t miss out. Santa is always keen to also help us raise money to help local people and we are grateful to everyone for their generous support. This year we hope in the absence of the collection by our team of Elves that people will support us with the click of a Chris-mouse!”
