Sight Support Ryedale is the ONLY voluntary organisation delivering support and social activities to people with sight loss in the very rural district of Ryedale. During the current Covid-19 situation, whilst the office is closed, the charity is continuing to support blind and partially sighted people remotely.
Our team of staff and volunteers are operating a telephone support service, listening to concerns, answering questions and providing a friendly voice in what otherwise might be a lonely time for many. Where needed our team can support further by shopping for essentials or collecting prescription medicines for our members. Furthermore, Sight Support Ryedale can source any vital daily living aids, specially designed for the blind, ensuring independent living whist in isolation. During this time Sight Support Ryedale are continuing to welcome new people and have already heard from a number of those on the start of their journey of living with sight loss.
Once life returns to normal Sight Support Ryedale will be reinstating is usual services which includes regular social gatherings, providing opportunities to make new friends, and receive support from other who are living with sight loss. The charity provides technology support and training on how the accessibility features of a smart phone or device can support daily living. The team are already planning excursions, shopping trips, gentle exercise, dancing, crafting and summer walks for when things return to normal.
