The Tang Hall Local History Group was formed in 1999 and celebrated its 20th year in 2019.
In 2020 preparations were to be made to start preparing for the 100th birthday of the building of the Tang Hall Estate however as we all now know the events of the Covid19 pandemic have overtaken all of our lives and the group held its last meeting in February before the lockdown was imposed.
At this time, we remain unaware of when the group will be able to recommence its meetings and there are many issues to overcome before this can happen. The period of lockdown has however led us into an unusual period with the sound of birdsong prevalent above the noise of cars and the absence of people on the streets, for many of us this is a moment in life that has not been seen before.
We are trying to keep in touch with members via email where we have an address and recently delivered a full newsletter to all members updating them on the current situation. We also have a website tanghallhistory.com which we have been digitising and adding information to over the lockdown period.
It would be great if any members of the public have photos of the area which includes Tang Hall, Heworth and Layerthorpe that they would be kind enough to share with is and allow us to add to the groups extensive archive, if anyone wants to share a photo of the lockdown in this area please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
We will update people once we know what the situation is going to be for the rest of the year and we can hopefully try and get back to the new normal. In the meantime, best wishes to all in the area and keep safe.
