On the 5th November 1971, The Foresters Folk Group played their very first fundraising concert at Stockton on the Forest in an old village hall. This was just the start, and they have been playing their folk songs, jigs, reels and easy style of music to audiences in York and surrounding areas ever since.
The current line-up includes Mike Brown (vocals, guitar, mandolin and banjo) Fred Ring (bass, vocals and guitar) Dee Marshall (vocals, flute, sax, percussion) Jo Wheldon (fiddle and vocals) and Stephen Marshall (vocals, guitar and bouzouki/mandolin).
Fred joined the group in 1976 and at the start of this year, gave one year’s notice of his ‘retirement’ from the group. Fred’s contribution will be missed, and the remaining 4 members, have decided to hold one final “Hurrah” with Fred, in what should be a fun-filled evening at Wigginton Village Hall on Friday 14th December.
