The Monday Players

by Handy Mag

The Monday Players is a drama society actively seeking new members (18+) to join our group.

Whether you enjoy performing, set building, lighting and sound, directing, working backstage or front of house or happy to do all of it, you will be made most welcome. Perhaps this might be your first experience in an AmDram group. Don’t worry! We have all been newcomers at some point. We are based a few miles south of York at our venue Escrick and Deighton Village Hall. We are proud to produce live theatre of a high standard twice a year, in May and October. The Monday Players, in its current form, is now in its 31st year with 18 years of panto and music hall prior to this.

Members come from a wide area, including York, Easingwold, Selby, and Market Weighton. Even if you don’t drive, there is a good bus service between Escrick and York and surrounding Selby villages. The Monday Players also have the fellowship of family, friends and many other supporters who like to be involved, not only in productions but also social events such as theatre trips, Sunday lunches, and Christmas celebrations.

We are a welcoming, enthusiastic, and supportive group. We have high standards of performance and production but, more importantly, we enjoy immensely the recreational benefits of our activities, and the friendships we make.

Our next production will be ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’ from 16th to 18th May, a comedy written by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman. Tickets go on sale on 4th April 2024.

If you are interested in becoming a member or perhaps seeing The Monday Players in action, why not come along to see the show. You can also get in touch to pop along to a rehearsal.
