Every May, Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month highlights the skill, dedication and compassion of Veterinary Nurses across the UK. At Ryedale Vets, our Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) are at the heart of everything we do, playing a vital role in delivering the highest standard of care to our patients.
Our RVNs are highly trained professionals involved in all aspects of clinical care, many of which clients may not always see. From assisting in theatre and monitoring anaesthesia to nursing inpatients, their role is both varied and essential. Behind the scenes, nurses are preparing equipment for surgery, maintaining strict hygiene standards, monitoring recovery, and ensuring each patient is comfortable and safe throughout their stay. Our nurses also routinely take blood samples with care and precision and run in-house laboratory tests to support fast and accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Nurse-led clinics form an important part of our work, focusing on preventative healthcare such as weight management, dental care, parasite control, and ongoing support for chronic conditions. These clinics allow our nurses to build strong relationships with clients while helping to keep pets healthy and improve their quality of life.
A valued part of our service is our District Nursing visits, where our nurses provide care in the comfort of a patient’s home. This can be particularly beneficial for pets who find travelling stressful or for clients who may have difficulty attending the practice. These visits may include administering medications, repeat injections under the direction of a vet, and post-operative checks, ensuring continuity of care in a familiar environment.
We are also proud to support Student Veterinary Nurses within our team, who work alongside our RVNs as they develop their skills and knowledge for the future.
Veterinary Nurses are more than just support staff they are skilled clinicians, patient advocates, and a constant source of reassurance for both pets and their owners. This Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, we celebrate their invaluable contribution every single day
