What Do You Value in a Dentist?
20/03/2026

by Christine Parker, BDS (GDC 72136)

For some people a good dentist sees them quickly, on time, checks they don’t need any fillings, perhaps gives them a quick clean and sends them on their way for another year.

When you’re young and under 30 this may be good enough, but as we age our needs change. The mouth ages and, well before the rest of the body, a lack of care shows in subtle ways.

Bleeding gums are not normal they are a sign of disease which if left unchecked can lead to pain, tooth loss and impact on our overall health. It is true that younger people develop fewer cavities due to fluoride toothpaste, however we still see plenty of cavities in the under 30s, most often it is because they do not know how simple changes can prevent them.

At Howardian, we will educate you on how to best care for your mouth so you nip dental disease in the bud. We also show you how to care for your gums and clean them well so they not only look clean they are healthy.

So…what would a dentist look for in a dentist? …time, care, personalised information on how my mouth is, and feedback on how I’m doing. Without this you can never improve your oral health. So next time you visit your dentist ask them, “Are there any areas I can improve on?”
