York’s Male Voice Choir storming Ireland with a new look!

York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir (‘The Phil’) have launched their new uniform to a fanfare of praise after 57 years in their previous black blazer.

After consultation with the choir they have gone for a brighter look in a blue jacket. Their first showing was at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York’s Festival of Choirs week where this photo was taken with our Musical Director Berenice Lewis smiling with pride for her men of the choir!

On the 1st May we will be performing in the Cork Choral Festival. ‘The Phil’ are one of 2 choirs chosen from the UK (18 others from across the world) to participate in this truly international event where we will be performing in the major cathedrals in the City and in Cobh.

Our next adventure will be once again competing in the national choir competition held in Whitby this April. Last year The Phil came first in all their 3 categories however this year there are 6 other male voice choirs who will provide appropriate challenge to our award winning status.

This year involves exciting preparation for our Centenary year where one significant highlight will be a Centenary concert (21/09/25) with our friends, which include choirs from Germany, Netherlands, Harmonia from Malton and Jubilate from Easingwold.

This is a great time to join the choir so we are encouraging prospective new members to come to any of our rehearsals at The Citadel Church in Gillygate, York on Monday nights meeting at 7.20pm for a 7.30pm start. If you enjoy singing then come and join us.
