Yorkshire Reefs Q&A

by Handy Mag

with Sapphire Littler, Yorkshire Reefs

Over the past few months, we’ve had an amazing response from HandyMag readers who have popped in to see us, given us a ring or sent us an email. We get asked a wide range of questions about reef-keeping, so we thought we’d answer some of the most commonly asked ones here. Please feel free to send over any questions to info@yorkshirereefs.com.

Are reef tanks difficult to look after?

While this used to be the case, they aren’t any more! Most people spend on average of 1-2 hours per week looking after their tank. There have been huge advances in equipment over the past decade, meaning the technology is now at a stage where tanks can be almost completely automated if you’d like them to be.

Can you set my new aquarium up for me?

Of course we can! As well as working in the shop, we also spend a portion of our week carrying out installations and maintenance on our client’s tanks. We can be involved as much or as little as you’d like. Whether it’s a one-off setup, or a regular maintenance contract, we’re always happy to help.

How do I get myself a reef aquarium?

For most people, having a discussion in store with us about what you’d like to get out of your setup is the best way to get started. After this, we can design an aquarium which will perfectly suit your needs and provide you with an itemised quote. We will always pop over once you’ve got it ready for fish to check everything is in the right place and ready to go!

If you think you already know what you’re looking for, have a go on our ‘Build your own setup’ page on our website. Here you can have a play around with different tanks and the equipment we suggest to run them. Better still, all equipment is currently 5% off when you use the tank builder!
